Meet the Ice Cream Bowl Collection
You asked for these!
These were never supposed to be a full collection.
I made the first ones for an ice cream bowl show at Commonwealth Clay. My plan was to use the show to test out the designs, then release them the following summer when ice cream actually makes sense. Then the waffle cone sold at the show, the waffle cup got an honorable mention, and my DMs filled up with people asking when they could get one. Not next summer. Now!
So I made a small batch. The early bird sold out in about 40 minutes, and that's when the ice cream bowls stopped being a side project.
They started as part of Ruffles, and you can still see it in the ruffled rims. Ruffles is where I get to play, and these are the most playful thing I make. There are three shapes: a waffle cone, a waffle cup, and a sundae bowl on a pedestal. The waffle texture is carved by hand, one square at a time, which is why these take me forever. The glazes are named like flavors: mint, strawberry, salted caramel, and chocolate brownie.
Nobody needs a special bowl for ice cream. But dessert is one of the few times in a day we sit down just to enjoy something, and I think that deserves its own bowl. Plus of course, bowls can be used for anything! I’ve been really enjoying cereal, granola, an yogurt out of these too for a boost of serotonin everytime I pull these bowls out of the cupboard.
I plan to make these in small batches once a year in the summer. If you miss one, there will be another next year!
