Meet the Ruffles Collection
Then, you play.
Ruffles started with a pie dish. Then a candle holder. Then bud vases, then bigger vases, then ice cream bowls, which took on a life of their own, and then ring dishes. I kept finding one more thing to ruffle.
Every rim is ruffled by hand while the clay is still soft, the same vulnerable stage where Homecoming pieces are pressed and held. Here the touch is lighter. In fashion, a ruffle is the detail a garment doesn't need. It is there because it is lovely. I wanted to give clay that same permission.
Rituals is oxidation fired. Homecoming is reduction fired. Ruffles is fired every way: oxidation, reduction, and soda. There is no one kiln for this collection. The form is the fun, and so are the colors, so each piece goes wherever its color lives.
Homecoming is about arriving. Rituals is about the life you build once you're there. Ruffles is the fun part. First you arrive, then you live, then you play.
This collection isn't finished and I don't want it to be. I'm going to keep ruffling up the objects from our everyday lives, because the things we reach for every day should bring a little joy and beauty with them.
More ruffles coming!
