Mini Ruffle Bud Vase: Black Coffee
Each mini bud vase is thrown on the wheel by hand, and while the clay is still soft, I work my way around the rim, pressing it in and out with my fingers one wave at a time. No two ever ripple quite the same way.
The ruffles aren’t just for looks. Every little dip in the rim gives a stem somewhere to rest, so even one small sprig stays standing instead of tipping over. And once it’s in, the ruffle sits around the base of the bloom like a soft, flowy skirt.
At around 3.5 inches tall, it’s just big enough for a single sprig, one little bloom, or a dried stem, and small enough to tuck onto a windowsill, a desk, or a bathroom counter. Made to hold a small moment. Each one is one of a kind, so the one in the photos is the one you’ll get.
These two are glazed in rich coffee browns, glossy enough to catch the light like a fresh cup. Wherever the glaze thins along the edge of the ruffle, it breaks to a warm copper. Flip one over and you’ll find the speckled white clay underneath, with the ‘pooterie’ carving right in the middle.
Dark Roast is the deepest of the two, so dark it’s almost black, like a shot of espresso. It has a round, full belly and a wide, wavy ruffle.
Medium Roast is a warmer, toasty brown with a soft speckle, like coffee with a splash of milk. A row of darker dots circles the shoulder just under the ruffle, and the body tapers gently down to the base.
