Ruffle Bud Vase: Salted Caramel

$49.00

Each bud vase is thrown on the wheel by hand, and while the clay is still soft, I work my way around the rim, pressing it in and out with my fingers one wave at a time. No two ever ripple quite the same way.

The ruffles aren’t just for looks. Every little dip in the rim gives a stem somewhere to rest, so even a single flower stays standing instead of flopping to one side. And once it’s in, the ruffle sits around the base of the bloom like a soft, flowy skirt.

These are glazed in Salted Caramel, the same “flavor” as my ice cream bowls. Two glazes are layered over a speckled clay: a warm, toasty caramel, and a pale, milky sea salt that pools on top. Wherever the two meet, the caramel peeks through in streaks and patches, and the speckles in the clay show through both, like little flecks of sea salt. Inside, the glaze deepens to a dark blue that shows up when you look down into the ruffle.

Drizzle has the skinner neck of the two, with a pear-shaped body and a slim neck that opens into a big, frilly ruffle. The sea salt glaze runs down from the rim in long, thin drips.

Swirl is rounder, with full shoulders that taper toward the base. The sea salt glaze wraps around the body in big, loose swirls, so it looks different from every side.

At around 4.5 inches tall, it’s the perfect size for a single stem, a few sprigs of whatever is blooming, or nothing at all on a windowsill where it can just be pretty. Made to hold a small moment. Each one is one of a kind, so the one in the photos is the one you’ll get.
